The Derek Morris Company is a central California coast commercial real estate consulting firm, working with clients in the purchase, sale, and exchange of investment real estate. California markets include the Central Coast (Santa Barbara, Ventura, San Luis Obispo, and Monterey Counties), San Francisco Bay Area, and parts of coastal Southern California. Derek is a specialist in Internal Revenue Code Section 1031 Tax-Deferred Exchanges, Multi-family Apartments, and Net Leased Investments. He has closed transactions in fourteen California counties involving a wide range of property types, including multi-family apartments, office buildings, single-tenant retail, strip and neighborhood centers, single-family, condominiums, condo conversions, R&D / light industrial / warehouse, and golf / recreational / land developments. Cumulative valuation of closings exceeds $335 Million.
Derek received an MBA in Real Estate and Urban Land Economics from the Haas Graduate School of Business, UC Berkeley. He co-founded and was President of the NASD broker-dealer First Republic Capital Corporation. With offices in San Francisco and Santa Monica, First Republic served as both lead underwriter and directly raised investor capital for California "Regulation D" private placement real estate partnerships. Derek held prior senior real estate investment, finance, and underwriting positions with Wells Fargo Bank, Cushman & Wakefield, and Grubb & Ellis Securities and has served as guest lecturer at the Haas Graduate School of Business, UC Berkeley.
